Black background is sufficient to bring in mind the general fear which all of us have in our minds as far as death is concerned. But since it is ‘A Book For All Those Who Shall Die’, it is definitely a read for us Human Beings, who according to the author are only existential beings with discretion. In the present times of Virus Spread, reading of it gives you the real understanding of what author distinctly proposes i.e. life and death exist at the same time and are no different and thus cannot be understood separately.
Death, just like Life, is yet another dimension of the creation, possessing tremendous possibilities and it is just that, since its not that visible or experienced or discussed majorly because of the negativity attached to it, it is mourned. It is so unexplored that even it does not have a definition of itself and medical science somehow explains it by referring it to as something which does not have life and that too when, even for life, they have no definition. Book, in this scenario, recognizing the fact that it is only a minute percentage of the creation which is explored by the science, distinctly puts up the concept of life-death duo concept in the understanding of Yogic Culture. Mortality, which in actual is the ultimate truth after life which is capable of being experienced, is majorly forgotten by us all. Birth and thereafter Life has always been something which is much celebrated and since it is full of ups and downs, woven through pleasures and pains, Mortality, as a concept, has no buyers. Author deeply deals with this distorted understanding of ignoring Death by us Human Beings, and suggests that even acknowledging Mortality in our day to day life style, could be an efficient to make the life ahead cakewalk. This is where he lays a foundation for making the way ahead of understanding Death- as a concept, interesting.
Concept of Death, as explained in the book, brings up first of all the foundation of life i.e. what it is made of. Author puts up the Yogic understanding of what Humans are composed of. Various kinds of Memories and thereafter Panchbhootas, he puts up as the base and thereafter beautifully puts up the mathematics of Sanchita Karma & Prarabdha Karma for explaining why life span of we beings vary so much and whether or not there exists any difference in Death which occur to us, as there exists a difference in the life which we live, which he clarifies by explaining different types of deaths. Death and then birth and then again death, is actually what we see and experience in the general sense but those who seek for Nirvana or Moksh, they must necessarily have a clear distinction in the mind as to Death because it is this step of the life from where a being can exit the birth death cycle. As important therefore, is to know, how to die, as is important to know how to live. This ‘how to die’ is elaborately discussed with reference to the ritual and cultures of India and other cultures as well. As the author cites, it is not only we as a individual who should be aware how to prepare our self for the death rather all surrounded shall also know how they can facilitate the death. Sadhana, has been a central theme all around the discussion as to death and its been put up that it is Sadhana which can lead to awareness which is of utmost importance in smooth exit from the life cycle. At the sidelines, author briefly also discusses about the ways to overcome the fear of death and grief, followed by the death, by explaining that if we understand life and death in a duo and the after death possibilities of exploring the unseen unexplored dimension of the creation, the dark screen image of death will go away woo. Explaining this, he puts up a quite general aspect yet an important one that we are not fearful of death in general (unless they are in large numbers due to some calamity or a situation like the present one) rather the fear and grief due to death arises out of the vacuum created due to absence of a loved one. He puts, therefore, it is not the death which worries, its the attachment which makes us mourn. However, he says, such a situation is of a great importance for the living ones as it not only reminds of the Mortality but is also gives an opportunity to move ahead in the life, irrespective of the fact that the one who is gone was a friend or an enemy. The most connected part to death i.e. question of existence of Ghosts and their kinds and as also the theories of rebirth has also found a place in the explanation to death. Author tries to cleanse the image of ghosts to make confident the readers, giving a yes to the question of their existence, and tagging the general fear as to ghosts created by the film makers to commercialize the Ghosts. In dealing with the rebirth’s aspect, author cites his own example and then puts forward the basic object of why actually rebirth happens with even those who are awakened enough and understand the importance of the thinning of and bursting of baloon (nomenclature throughout to explain the life death cycle).
As a young reader, the book has not only put forward reasoning of various rituals associated with the death of a person, which majorly remain un-discussed in the society due to villain characteristics of death, but also is so beautifully woven to explain what actually is life composed of which was quintessential in getting even an inch towards understanding death. During explaining life, the author has elaborately dealt with the Inner Engineering concept proposed by the author earlier, which is an amazing effort to make the reader understand that both during the life and after life, it is the inner world of the individual which holds much importance and every attempt must be made by a person to ensure that the inner functioning is taken charge of by that person so as to ensure that the person is least affected by the influences of the outside world. Apart from it, the sequence in which the book is written is such that as a reader, there will come situations when there will erupt death and its rituals related questions but the same gets straight away answered in subsequent couple of pages for instance the detailed discussions as so ancestor worship, mahasamadhi, santhara, euthanasia, organ donation.
